MPS hosts newly-accredited Turkish Ambassador
Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with newly-accredited Turkish Ambassador to Vietnam Korhan Kemik, on November 18th, in Hanoi.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang congratulated Ambassador Korhan Kemik on his new posting and expressed his belief that the Ambassador, with his much experience in various diplomatic positions, will achieve much success in his term of office in Vietnam.
The Minister considered that the meeting was a valuable opportunity for the two sides to discuss issues of mutual concern and as well as seek to expand cooperation and relations between the two countries in general and between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Turkish law enforcement agencies in particular.
Regarding bilateral security and law enforcement cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that the Cooperation Agreement on fighting against international terrorism, organized crime, international illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors and other types of crime between the two countries signed in 2007 had created a legal basis for the two sides to promote cooperation in law enforcement.
In the framework of the deal, the two sides have maintained delegation exchange, exchanged criminal information, and jointly settled cases related to citizens of the two countries as well as ensured security and safety of diplomatic missions and businesses of one country in the other country.
Regarding orientations for bilateral cooperation the coming time, the host suggested that the two sides should step up the negotiation and signing of a Cooperation Agreement on Non-traditional Security between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Turkish Ministry of the Interior, while considering about the negotiation of other cooperation documents such as agreements on extradition and transfer of sentenced persons, so as to create a firm legal basis for law enforcement cooperation.
The Vietnamese Minister also proposed that the two sides exchange information related to issues of mutual concern, strengthen crime prevention and control cooperation, especially transnational organized crime, international terrorism, drug-related crime and economic crime, while exchanging information about cases related to citizens of the two countries to promptly address.
In addition, Minister Luong Tam Quang stressed the need to enhance high-level and expert-level delegation exchange to strengthen mutual understanding and trust as well as seek cooperation opportunities in the fields where each side has potential and strengths.
The host also called for expanding cooperation in building capacities of police forces to engage in especially training for UN peacekeeping operations, as well as exchanging hands-on experience in responding to natural disasters and climate change.
Sincerely thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Ambassador Korhan Kemik expressed his honor to be the Turkish Ambassador to Vietnam, and hoped that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and Minister Luong Tam Quang will assist him so that he can successfully complete his duties during his term of office in Vietnam.
The Turkish Ambassador also underlined that the two countries still have much room and potential for cooperation in all fields, especially in security and law enforcement, and pledged that he will spare no effort to bring the bilateral relations to a new high level and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in general and between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Turkish law enforcement agencies in particular in a practical and effective manner.
