MPS launches project to use audio-video recording devices during interrogations
Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc chaired a meeting on July 27 to discuss a project to invest in facilities and technology to record interrogations in accordance with the 2015 Criminal Procedure Code.
At the meeting, the Office of the Ministry of Public Security announced the decision of the Minister of Public Security on the establishment of a Steering Committee for the project. According to the decision, the Steering Committee consists of 17 members, headed by Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc.
At the meeting, members of the Steering Committee briefed the deputy minister on the results of the pilot use of some sound or audio-visual recording devices to record interrogations of the accused. They also proposed plans and a roadmap to improve technical facilities for the effective implementation of the project.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc emphasized that audio and video recordings of the interrogations will help the criminal justice agencies improve the efficiency of crime investigation, while avoiding wrongdoings and criminal omissions.
The deputy minister requested the Office of the Investigation Police Agency under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to urge relevant units to work out plans and roadmaps to realize the project as planned and with the highest quality.
He also noted that technical facilities and technologies for recording interrogations must be modern and have high confidentiality. While implementing the project, relevant units should strictly comply with the laws and exercise thrift by making the most of their existing equipment and machinery of the People's Public Security Forces.
