MPS tightens traditional friendship with Lao MPS
PSNews - Within the framework of his visit to Laos to attend the meeting to evaluate the implementation of the project on building national population database and chip-based identification card management systems of Laos, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, leading a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS), paid a courtesy call on Lao Member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security General Vilay Lakhamphong, on the afternoon of December 19th, 2024.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long expressed his delight at the positive cooperation results between the two Ministries of Public Security, particularly after three years of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Drug Prevention and Control.
Accordingly, the counter-narcotic forces of the two countries established and effectively operated hotlines, as well as exchanged crime information in a practical and effective manner. In 2024, the two police forces jointly investigated and successfully dismantled several drug trafficking lines and arrested many wanted fugitives.

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister proposed that Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamphong direct the Lao MPS to effectively implement the signed Memorandum of Understanding, fully utilize the Vietnam-sponsored police stations in border areas of Laos, and closely coordinate with Vietnamese police forces in tracking and arresting Vietnam-wanted fugitives in Laos.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long also affirmed that Vietnam's MPS is always ready to share its experience and provide human resources to support the Lao MPS in effectively implementing the project to build national population database and identification card management systems of Laos.

Speaking at the meeting, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamphong highly appreciated the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries, and the coordination and support of Vietnam’s MPS for its Lao counterpart, saying that the support helped the Lao police forces strengthen their capabilities of ensuring security and safety for major events in Laos, particularly the recently held 44th-45th ASEAN Summit.
In addition, the host praised the effective coordination between the two police forces in preventing and combating crime, especially drug-related crime, human trafficking, illegal arms trading and high-tech crime.

The Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security stressed that the achievements in the cooperation between the two ministries not only affirm the deep connection between the two ministries but also further strengthen the special friendship between the two countries.
