Press conference announces President’s 2024 amnesty decision
The Presidential Office in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme People’s Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other functional agencies organized a press conference to announce the President’s 2024 amnesty decision in Hanoi.
Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Office Pham Thanh Ha, Deputy Minister of Public Security Major General Nguyen Ngoc Lam, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Tri Tue and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet co-chaired the press conference.
At the press conference, Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Office Pham Thanh Ha released that, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the National Day and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi Capital, at the request of the Central Advisory Council on Amnesty, on September 29th, 2024, the President signed Decision No.957/QD-CTN on amnesty for prisoners in 2024.
The Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Office underlined that the 2024 amnesty demonstrates the traditional humanity of the country as well as the Party and State’s lenient policies for sentenced persons who have done a good service. It also aims to create favorable conditions for them to correct their mistakes and become good citizens in society.
He stressed that the work of considering and listing prison inmates eligible for amnesty in 2024 is carried out in a public, democratic, objective, fair manner, according to the laws and regulations.
At the press conference, Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Office Pham Thanh Ha announced the President’s Decision No.957/QD-CTN on 2024 amnesty. Accordingly, 3,763 inmates serving their sentences in prisons and 2 persons with temporary sentence suspension will be pardoned on the occasion.
On behalf of functional agencies, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ngoc Lam answered queries raised by journalists regarding the 2024 amnesty.
