Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh Appointed as Editor-in-Chief of CAND Newspaper

The Public Security (CAND) Newspaper held a conference on February 9 in Hanoi to review its work in 2025, launch its work program for 2026, and announce personnel decisions.

Major General Do Trieu Phong, Party Secretary and Director General of the Information and Communications Department under the Ministry of Public Security, attended and delivered remarks at the conference.

Also present at the meeting were Senior Colonel Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Information and Communications Department and Director of CAND Television; Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the Information and Communications Department; and representatives of the leadership of functional units under the People’s Public Security Communications Department.

Members of the Party Committee and Editorial Board of the CAND Newspaper included Deputy Editors-in-Chief Senior Colonel Tran Duy Hien, Colonel Tran Hong Thanh, and Colonel Phan Dang Truong, along with leaders of specialized departments, representative offices, officers, reporters and workers of the newspaper.

Prior to the conference, on behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security, Major General Do Trieu Phong presented personnel decisions to several senior officers of the CAND Newspaper.

According to him, on February 5, 2026, the Minister of Public Security signed a decision assigning Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh, born in 1971 in Tam Thanh Ward, Lang Son Province, Deputy Director of the Information and Communications Department, to hold the position of Editor-in-Chief of the CAND Newspaper.

On the same day, the Party Committee of the Information and Communications Department issued a decision appointing Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh as Secretary of the Party Committee of the CAND Newspaper for the 2025–2030 term.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Do Trieu Phong congratulated Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh on his new positions. He emphasized that the personnel decision reflected the Ministry’s recognition and high regard for the department in general and the CAND Newspaper in particular.

Highlighting that the country is entering a new phase of development. In the national mainstream, the Vietnam revolutionary press system is transforming itself by changing news production mechanisms and enhancing the application of scientific and technological advances.

Major General Do Trieu Phong suggested that Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh build upon the newspaper’s proud traditions and long-standing legacy on the one hand, and recognize the demands of a new historical period to collaborate closely with the Party Committee and Editorial Board of the CAND Newspaper to further develop the newspaper and lead the staff to successfully fulfill its assigned tasks.

In his reply, Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh expressed his honor and deep feelings while receiving the decision from the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security.

The newly-appointed Editor-in-Chief said, he fully comprehends that he will hold larger responsibility, particularly when the newspaper will have to do a number of tasks in the time ahead. Thus he hopes that the Party Committee, Editorial Board and all officers and staff of the newspaper will be united to overcome challenges and successfully accomplish all assigned missions. He also wishes to continue receiving guidance, support and coordination from the Director of the Information and Communications Department and the functional units of the department so that the newspaper can further develop in the time ahead.
