Traffic police take various measures to ensure traffic safety in Quang Binh
Quang Binh has Road 12A to the Cha Lo International Border Gate, connecting with Laos. This is an important traffic route so a large number of vehicles transport goods on it.
In order to ensure traffic safety and order as well as to fight against all kinds of crimes, especially drug-related crimes in border areas, the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department has recently launched a campaign to popularize laws to drivers and local people and combat drug trafficking on the traffic route with the traffic police force as the core.
For nearly 2 months now, apart from its main task of maintaining traffic order on the route, the Traffic Police Office of the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department has sent mobile teams to patrol along the route and set up a checkpoint to test drivers for positive alcohol and drug concentrations. Every day, dozens of drivers have to take rapid drug tests and measure blood alcohol concentration.
The move aims to detect and strictly handle offences of driving under the influence.
When being asked, driver Hoang Van T totally agreed with the traffic police move, saying that testing for drug and alcohol concentrations is necessary as it helps drivers improve their awareness of observing traffic regulations.
At the same time, traffic police officers distribute leaflets on traffic safety regulations to local people and drivers on Road 12A.
The traffic law and anti-narcotics dissemination drive has received much support from local people. Mr. Luong Thanh Dung, residing in Y Leng village, Dan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh said, there are many complicated problems in the area of Cha Lo international border gate. The law dissemination drive is very useful to drivers and local people as well. The leaflet with pictures and warnings in both Vietnamese and Lao languages helps people know the harmful effects of illicit drugs and traffic safety regulations.
According to Major Truong Chi Dung, Deputy Captain of Patrol Team No. 5, the Traffic Police Office, the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department, alcohol and drug testing for drivers on this route is very important to traffic safety as the road section is steep and winding with lots of risks of traffic accidents. Under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs, drivers are more likely to cause traffic accidents.
Traffic police’s checking for alcohol and drug concentration has achieved positive results. Drivers on the route tell each other not to drink alcohol while driving. On the Facebook page "Border Driver Association," drivers often post pictures of the drivers committing traffic offences and tell each other to avoid these offences.
Colonel Tran Duc Duong, Head of the Traffic Police Office of the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department, said, “We will deploy forces to maintain traffic order and safety on not only this route, but all so all routes passing the province until the end of the year.”
