Vietnam and Cambodia exchange experience in immigration management
The Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Kingdom of Cambodia held a meeting to exchange experience in managing people’s entry and exit, on October 23, in Hanoi.
The meeting include four discussion sessions with the following topics: new organizational structure of the immigration department; new policies and regulations in the field of immigration management; the situation of citizens of one country entering and residing in the territory of the other; the situation of illegal immigration and illegal migration, as well as bilateral cooperation in accepting back citizens and coordination in training, information exchange and joint programs.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed that they will continue to coordinate and implement key tasks, such as enhancing security inspection at border gates and along the shared borderline, carrying out strong raids on establishments, companies, and casinos that have potential illegal labor recruitment so as to control illegal immigration.
The police forces of the two countries, especially police units along the borderlines of the two countries, improve cooperation, enhance exchange of information, to prevent and detect illegal entry and exit, and destroy criminal networks that illegally transport people overseas.
Both sides also affirmed the need to speed up negotiations to early sign deals on border gates and management of border gates along the Vietnam-Cambodia border to replace the agreement on border management regulations signed by the two countries in 1983, creating a legal basis for relevant forces of the two countries to effectively implement immigration management.
