Vietnam, Belgium agree to strengthen fight against human trafficking

Within the framwork of the visit to the Kingdom of Belgium of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on the afternoon of December 15 (local time), in Brussels, Deputy Minister Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc had talks with Secretary of State for Migration and Refugees, Belgian Ministry of the Interior, Ms. Nicole de Moor.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc suggested that the two sides exchange visits of high-level delegations and experts to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of crime prevention and control, especially illegal immigration. 

The two sides should increase information exchange and sharing of experience in crime prevention and control as well as coordinate in investigating cases of human trafficking and illegal migration, ensure the security and safety for diplomatic missions, businessmen, students and citizens of one country working, studying and living in the other country.

At the meeting, the two sides showed their concern about the risk of information insecurity and cyber security, shared experience in data digitalization and connection of databases, and agreed on exchanging information on issues of mutual interest.

Ms. Nicole de Moor thanked Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc and the Vietnamese delegation for the visit, and expressed delight at positive results of cooperation between the two governments and law enforcement agencies of the two countries.

She also agreed on the guest’s assessment of challenges and risks of illegal migration and human trafficking, saying that it is necessary to increase coordination among ministries, agencies and forces of the two countries while strengthening cooperation in the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking. 

The Belgian side also suggested that the two sides should soon agree on cooperation contents in the two draft agreements, creating favorable conditions for Vietnam and Belgium to trade with other members of the EU.
