Vietnam, Hungary seek to expand law enforcement cooperation

Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to Vietnam Baloghdi Tibor, on the afternoon of September 17th, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to and wishes to promote comprehensive cooperation with Hungary, a traditional friend and the first and single comprehensive partner of Vietnam in the Central Eastern Europe.

Recalling the signing of an agreement on preventing and combating transnational organized crimes between the two countries during the visit to Hungary of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in January 2024, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that the agreement created favorable conditions for the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Hungarian Ministry of Interior to expand cooperation in law enforcement fields of mutual concern, contributing to further promoting Vietnam – Hungary bilateral relations.

The host also revealed that, the two ministries are thoroughly studying two draft agreements on confidential information exchange and protection and acceptance of the return of citizens between the two countries, in order to early negotiate and sign these two agreements in the near future.

To further promote bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Hungarian Ministry of Interior, Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that the two sides continue to enhance high-level and expert-level delegation exchange as well as share hands-on experience in the fields of mutual concern.

The Vietnamese Minister proposed that the two sides should early reach consensus on the content and complete each side’s internal procedures so as to begin negotiations and then sign the two draft agreements on confidential information exchange and protection and acceptance of the return of citizens between the two countries.

The Vietnamese Public Security Minister also suggested that two sides regularly exchange information on transnational organized crimes, criminal groups of human trafficking and illegal migration as well as share terrorist plots to sabotage each country  and report on one country’s citizens committing offences in the other.

On the occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang requested that Hungary continue to support the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in training and building capacity of Vietnamese police officers in the fields of its strengths.

Sincerely thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Hungarian Ambassador Baloghdi Tibor affirmed that the Vietnam – Hungary cooperation has positively developed in all fields.

The Ambassador pledged he will spare no effort to expand and deepen cooperation between the two countries in general and between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and Hungarian Ministry of Interior and law enforcement agencies in particular in an effective and practical manner, for the benefits of people of the two countries.
