Vietnam, Japan strengthen bilateral security cooperation

 A delegation from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Major General Nguyen Van Long, had a working trip to Japan from July 31, 2033 to August 5, 2023.

Within the framework of the working trip, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long paid a courtesy visit to former Prime Minister of Japan Suga Yoshihide, and had a meeting with Deputy Commander of the National Police Agency of Japan Ogata Yoshimi and Directors of Japanese police units including mobile police, traffic police and fire&rescue police.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the Vietnamese delegation also had  discussions with Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs under the National Police Agency of Japan Tsuitsui Hiroki and former Special Ambassador for Japan-Vietnam Sugi Ryotaro, who workss as a special advisor to the National Police Agency of Japan and advisor to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan as well as Ministry of Justice of Japan. 

In order to further promote the bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the National Police Agency of Japan in line with the political relations between the two countries, the two sides agreed to strongly promote cooperation in the field of ensuring security and social order, which is one of the mainstays of the cooperation and relations between the two countries, in the coming time, as well as consider expanding cooperation mechanisims in response to non-traditional security threats, especially cyber security, climate change and terrorism.

The two sides also agreed to work closely to protect citizens of the two countries as well as create favorable conditions for citizens of one country living working and studying in the other, while absolutely denying hostile forces from taking opporturnities to undermine the Party and State of Vietnam.

For their part, the Japanese partners highly valued the working trip of Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to Japan, and considered the visit an important contribution to deepening the bilateral relationship.

They also pledged to further promote the cooperation with the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in the coming time.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long meets with former Special Ambassador for Japan-Vietnam Sugi Ryotaro.

*On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the delegation aslo visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Tokyo and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka.  At the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long was briefed on the work results of the embassy  and the situation of the Vietnamese community in Japan.

The deputy minister inquired after the staff of the embassy and Vietnamese nationals in Japan, and encouraged them to make positive contributions to the relationship between the two contries.
