Vietnam, Laos agree to bolster cooperation between their security forces

The Vietnam - Laos Security Cooperation Conference is an annual meeting of the two countries' security forces, aiming to strengthen security cooperation and contribute to cementing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

At the conference, the two sides shared the view that the security forces and police in the bordering provinces of the two countries had closely coordinated and effectively implemented cooperation contents agreed by the two sides at the 13th Vietnam - Laos Security Cooperation Conference.

The competent forces of the two countries coordinated effectively in ensuring internal security, internal political security, economic security, cultural security, cyber security, border security and entry-exit management.

Regarding the orientation for bilateral cooperation in the time to come, the two sides agreed to continue to effectively maintain existing cooperation mechanisms between the two countries' security forces and police units stationed along the shared borderline while jointly working out key cooperation contents with the aim of safeguarding national security of each country. 

Both sides saw the need to bolster the mechanism of information exchange and situation sharing between security agencies and border police units while joining efforts to take preventative measures, handle emerging issues and advise leaders of the two sides on policies and solutions to firmly protect national security of each country in the current situation.

The two sides also agreed to join efforts to respond to non-traditional security threats affecting development and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in general and the two countries' Ministries of Public Security in particular. support the views and positions of the two countries at international and regional forums, and promote cooperation in preventing and combating terrorism among ASEAN countries, thereby contributing to building an ASEAN Community of peace, security, stability and development.

In the immediate future, the security forces of the two countries should cooperate comprehensively to ensure security and safety for events and conferences in Laos when Laos assumes the ASEAN Chair.

At the end of the conference, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang and Deputy Minister Kongthong Phongvichit signed the minutes of the 14th Laos - Vietnam Security Cooperation Conference.
