Vietnam must not be illicit drug transit: Deputy Nguyen Duy Ngoc
PSNews - The Counter-Narcotics Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security held a briefing of the Steering Committee for Plans to Prevent and Control Drug Abuse and Drug Crime on the Southwestern Border, on the afternoon of May 9, 2023, in Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province.
Member of the Party Central Committee Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc attended the meeting.
During the past one year and a half, the police units of the 6 Southwestern border provinces of Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang and the police units of their neighboring provinces of Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Ca Mau actively implemented the plan.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc suggested that the police units in the subregion should enhance basic professional work, grasp the illicit drug trafficking situation in their designated locality.
The local police unit should also draw up in-depth plans on countering drug-related crime, proactively control hotspots and drug-related subjects, drastically attack illicit drug traffickers, prevent the formation of inter-provincial illicit drug bands.
Police units in the South should also enhance information exchange, coordinate closely with Cambodian counterparts to fight against organized and transnational illicit drug trafficking lines and counter illicit drug trafficking from afar, avoiding Vietnam from becoming an international illicit drug transit area.
