Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security strengthens cooperation with Iranian law enforcement agencies

 A high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led by Minister of Public Security General To Lam, visited Iran at the invitation of Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, from May 19 to 22, 2023.

During his visit, Minister To Lam paid a courtesy visit to Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, held talks with Iran's Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi and Iranian Justice Minister Amin Houssein Rahimi, and had a meeting with Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian National Police Ahmad Reza Radan.

At the talks between Minister To Lam and Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, the two sides highly valued the good friendship between Vietnam and Iran in general and the cooperation between the two ministries in the field of crime prevention and control in particular.

The two ministers agreed to expand cooperation between the two ministries in the field of information security, coordinate in handling transnational crimes and crimes related to citizens of the two countries, absolutely protect the safety of senior leaders of one country visiting the other, and ensure security and safety of the headquarters of the representative missions and citizens of of one country in the territory of the other country while strengthening cooperation in cybersecurity, professional capacity building, foreign language training, and supporting each other in international forums to which the two sides are members.

At the end of the talks, Minister To Lam and Minister Ahmad Vahidi signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Iranian Ministry of Interior.

* Within the framework of the visit, Minister To Lam also had talks with Iranian Minister of Justice Amin Houssein Rahimi.

The two sides expressed their delight at the good developments in the relationship between the two countries in general, cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Justice of Iran in particular. 

Recently, the two ministries have completed negotiations on the extradition agreement and the agreement on transfer of sentenced prisoners between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

After the talks, authorized by President Vo Van Thuong, Minister To Lam and Iranian Justice Minister A. H. Rahimi signed an extradition agreement and an agreement on the transfer of imprisoned convicts between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

Next, Minister To Lam worked with Commander-in-Chief of the National Police of Iran Ahmad Reza Radan on specific cooperation in the field of crime prevention and control, especially countering organized crime, transnational crime, drug-related crime and high-tech crime.

* On the occasion of his visit to Iran, Minister To Lam paid a courtesy visit to Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber. 

At the meeting, Minister To Lam expressed his delight at visiting Iran on the occasion of the two countries' 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2023), affirming that Iran is one of Vietnam's important partners in the Middle East. 

The guest emphasized that Vietnam wishes to strengthen and expand cooperation with Iran in various fields, especially in security, politics, economy, trade, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange. Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber highly appreciated the visit of the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led by General To Lam, and hailed the signing of three cooperation documents between the two sides. 

The host expressed his belief that the visit of the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam would contribute to promoting the bilateral relationship between the two countries in general and the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and law enforcement agencies of Iran in particular.

General To Lam and a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security also paid a call on the Vietnamese Embassy in Tehran to attend the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Iran jointly organized by the Embassy of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

The signing of these two agreements has marked a major turning point in the bilateral cooperation and relationship between the two ministries in particular and the two countries in general, creating legal frameworks for the two sides to boost cooperation in the coming time, contributing to the cause of protecting security and social safety of each country, as well as to maintaining security, peace and development in the region and in the world.
