Vietnamese police delegation joins international conference on management of chemical precursors
A delegation of the Narcotic Investigation Police Department led by Director Nguyen Van Vien Major General attended the Far East Regional IDEC Working Group, held from August 1 to 3, 2022 in Bali, Indonesia, at the invitation of the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
The event, which was co-hosted by the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the Indonesian National Narcotics Board, drew the participation of 120 delegates from 13 countries, namely Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Japan, Republic of Korea and the US.
This year’s conference (a Mini IDEC) focused on 4 main topics: effective management of chemical precursors to avoid chemical precursor losses for synthetic drug production; fight against transnational organized crime; prevention and combat of laundering money from drug trafficking; and fight against organized crime rings in Mexico.
Speaking at the conference, Major General Nguyen Van Vien briefed other delegates on the situation and results of drug prevention and control in Vietnam as well as urged for international cooperation in fighting drug trafficking in the coming time.
On the sidelines of the event, the Narcotic Investigation Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Drug Enforcement Administration of the US signed an MoU on combating transnational drug-related crimes.
The MoU is valid for 3 years, covering important cooperation activities between the two sides, including information exchange on drug-related crimes, cooperation in fighting and investigating drug-related crimes, and supports in training of law enforcement officers on drug prevention and control and the assessment of drug substances.
The Vietnamese delegation also met and exchanged information with the delegations from Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Australia and the US.
