Virtual conference on human trafficking prevention and control held in Hanoi
The Vietnam Women’s Union and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on July 30 co-organized a virtual conference on joint actions against human trafficking themed “Victims’ voices lead the way” in response to this year’s World Day against Human Trafficking.
The event saw the presence of Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union Ha Thi Nga, among other delegates.
In her opening remarks, Chairwoman Nga stated that the theme of this year's World Day against Human Trafficking launched by the United Nations is “Victims’ voices lead the way,” recommending countries to place the protection of victims of human trafficking at the center of all solutions to prevent and control human trafficking.
Ms. Nga affirmed that the principle has been determined by the Government of Vietnam in the Law on Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking.
Ms. Ha Thi Nga called on cadres of Vietnamese women's organizations at all levels to boost information dissemination on anti-human trafficking as well as coordinate with police forces and relevant agencies to fight the crime and assist victims of human trafficking in a timely and effective manner.
They should promote the “Peace House”, “Kindness House”, “Bridge of Happiness” models to support trafficking victims to reintegrate into the community, Ms. Nga added.
As the situation of human trafficking will see complicated developments in the coming time, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc called on ministries and sectors to effectively implement key tasks and solutions mentioned in the national program on prevention and control of human trafficking from 2021 to 2025 with a vision to 2030.
Law enforcement agencies at the central level should take systemic measures to investigate and strictly handle human trafficking crimes while expanding cooperation with judicial agencies of other countries to attack human trafficking rings and rescue victims.
In response to the UN’s message “Victims’ voices lead the way”, Deputy Minister Ngoc asked relevant agencies to work together to promptly rescue and effectively support victims of human trafficking to reintegrate into the community.
They should also comprehend the thoughts of local people and improve the public awareness of human trafficking so as to actively prevent human trafficking in their localities, Deputy Minister Ngoc said.
