The drill organized by the Authority of Information Security and the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT), the drill updates public technicians on solutions to prevent and counter advanced persistent threat (APT), while equipping them with skills to get ready for real attacks to national information infrastructure.

Nguyen Khac Lich, deputy head of the VNCERT, said drills in recent years showed limitations when it comes to APT attacks. VNCERT has launched a new model where participants can practice both defense and attack skills. They are not allowed to destroy and shutdown the data, or to cause information leaks.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung said he expects the participating teams will continue working together to build a safe cyberspace.
In the first two months of 2018, more than 1,500 cyber attacks were recorded in Vietnam, including 962 Deface attacks, 324 Malware attacks and 218 Phishing attacks. These included hundreds of attacks on websites of State agencies with the domain name ".gov.vn". In 2017, the aggregate damage caused by computer viruses to Vietnamese users reached 12,300 billion VND (540 million USD), while this figure in 2016 was 10,400 billion.
