PSNews - According to Vietnam Trade Counselor in Japan Ta Duc Minh, in the first two months of 2023, the number of fresh durians that Japan imported from Vietnam exceeded that of Thailand. In April 2022, the retail price of durian was only about USD9-10 per kilogram, and now it has reached USD17-18 per kg.

Vietnam Trade Counselor in Japan Ta Duc Minh shared that, Vietnam's fresh frozen durian products occupied an overwhelming position and there are many businesses involved in importing in large quantities to be sold in Japanese supermarkets all year round.

However, as the price is high, consumers are mainly high-income customers. The group of customers who eat the most is still the Chinese community and some ASEAN countries who are used to eating durian.

A representative from an enterprise specializing in importing and supplying fresh fruit to Japan, said the price of fresh durian imported from Vietnam and sold in Japan has nearly doubled compared to the same period in 2022.

Specifically, in April 2022, the retail price of durian was only about USD9-10 per kilogram, and now it has reached USD17-18 per kg. The price of Vietnamese durian is only behind that of Thailand at USD21 per kg and higher than that of the Philippines at USD14-15 per kilogram.

Vietnamese durian exports to Japan with 2 products: fresh fruit and frozen durian. Compared to fresh durian, frozen durian is sold at cheaper price, at about USD14-15 per kilogram. This product is imported and sold all year round, regardless of the season like fresh fruit.
