Discover unique Khuoi Ky stone village in Cao Bang

The northern province of Cao Bang is renowned for being home to a number of attractive destinations, including Khuoi Ky ancient stone village, a traditional village belonging to the Tay people.

Situated approximately 80 km away from Cao Bang, the stone village can be found in Khuoi Ky village of Dam Thuy commune in Trung Khanh district.

The ancient houses date back to the late 16th century and are all built using stone.

Solid stone walls are also formed by using stones of various sizes and stacking them together.

The roofs of the stilt houses are covered with yin and yang tiles, an effect which gives the houses on stilts a rare antique look in Khuoi Ky Cao Bang stone village.

It is a traditional Tay belief that people were born within stone walls become stones themselves when they die.

Even the stairs of the stilt houses are built using mountain stones.

A peaceful space can be found in front of the stone stilt house of the Khuoi Ky people.

A traditional stone stilt house features three rooms, whilst those who are more well-off usually have five.

Several local people have rebuild and decorated their houses to become homestays in order to both serve domestic and foreign tourists.

Along with admiring the beauty of the village, visitors will have the chance to enjoy Then singing performances, a distinctive musical genre and a special combination of the spiritual and cultural life of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups.
