Khmer culture, sport and tourism festival underway in Soc Trang
PSNews - The 8th Culture, sports, and tourism festival of the Khmer people in the Southern region opened in Soc Trang Province on November 6.
The 8th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of Khmer people in the South and the 5th Ooc Om Boc Festival –Soc Trang Ngo Boat Race in the Mekong Delta region in 2022 are co-organised by the Soc Trang Provincial People’s Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST).
Themed “Preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Khmer people in the South with equality, solidarity, integration and development”, the event gathered many Khmer artisans, artists, actors and athletes from 12 provinces and cities including: Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, An Giang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien said that the culture of ethnic minorities is a valuable heritage, contributing to the richness, diversity and unity of Vietnamese culture.
He stressed that preserving the cultural identities of ethnic minorities, including those of the Khmer people, is a significant political task in fostering national integration and development.
He then called on the Khmer ethnic community to make more efforts to safeguard and promote their unique traditional culture.
Ok Om Bok (moon-worshipping) Festival and a boat race were also organised on the occasion.
