Vietnamese Banh mi among world’s best sandwiches: CNN
PSNews - Vietnamese Banh mi is listed as one of 24 world's best sanwiches, according to CNN Travel.
According to CNN, Banh mi are now sold from food carts on nearly every street corner in Ho Chi Minh City and across Vietnam and are widely loved well beyond the country’s borders.
"The classic version is pork-based, starring chả lụa (Vietnamese-style pork roll), shredded pickled carrots, pickled daikon, cilantro leaves, mayonnaise and other ingredients", the must-try dish was described by CNN.
CNN Travel also suggested that people can find variations with tofu and thinly sliced lemongrass chicken, too. The taste is crunchy, fresh, savory and utterly delicious.
Earlier, CNN also listed Banh mi as one of three Vietnamese dishes among best street foods in Asia, saying that it is a dish that visitors to Vietnam cannot miss the opportunity to enjoy.
TasteAtlas, a website dedicated to discovering fresh ingredients, traditional dishes, and authentic restaurants around the world, in February recognised Vietnamese baguette, known locally as "Banh mi", as the 7th best street food in the world.
Anthony Bourdain, late American celebrity chef, once said that the central town of Hoi An in Quang Nam Province is home to the “best banh mi in the world”. He even described the Banh Mi Phuong (the banh mi that is prepared by Madam Phuong) as the “symphony in a sandwich” when he was in town filming an episode of his travel show No Reservations in 2005.
