The intervention by border guards comes after a Vietnamese fishing boat, coded BT 95555 TS, discovered an unknown vessel as it was sinking 80 nautical miles southwest of Con Dao island on July 16.
As the Vietnamese boat approached four people wearing life vests on board immediately sent out an SOS signal.
The captain of the Vietnamese vessel Nguyen Van Tuyen sailed his boat towards the sinking Thai ship in order to save the victims. Once safely onboard, it was discovered that the four were Thai fishermen. The group were then brought to Ben Dam port on Con Dao island.
The captain of the Thai boat Yod said the group had been travelling from Malaysia to Thailand when they suffered an engine failure and began to drift out at sea.
Since being rescued, all four fishermen are in good health and are now waiting on Con Dao island until they are able to return to their home country.
