Hanoi continues to pilot walking streets

The Hanoi People’s Committee on December 13 decided to continue maintaining walking streets surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake and its nearby areas in 2017, and increasing measures to make them trimmer.

Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, affirmed that organising walking streets at weekends has been welcomed by local residents and tourists.

In upcoming time, the walking streets will be implemented scientifically and orderly to turn it into an exciting cultural space.

The walking streets will be open to the public on national days such as April 30, May 1 and September 2.

Chung said Hanoi will organise big events in the walking zone. The Cherry (Sakura) Blossom festival will be an annual event of the walking zone from March 18-23.

Other cultural programmes include ASEAN, Asian and European cuisine festivals and art performances of the Central Highlands, the Northwestern region, the Central region and the Red River Delta.

Exhibitions on village craft products; book, beer and street festivals and other activities will be also organised in the walking zone.

Beginning in September, the walking zone surrounding the Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi has quickly become a hit, drawing dozens of thousands of local and international tourists each weekend.
