Road accidents kill 600 in April
A total of 1,046 traffic accidents have occurred in April, killing 600 people and injuring 690 nationwide, according to figures released by the National Traffic Safety Committee.
Of the accidents, 1,036 occurred on roads, claiming 592 lives and injuring 689 others. Compared to the same period last year, the number of accidents and injuries dropped by 35 and 62, respectively, while the number of deaths saw an increase of 71.
Meanwhile, seven accidents occurred in the railway sector in April, killing five and injuring one. Compared to last year, the number of accidents, deaths, and injuries rose by three, one, and one, respectively.
Furthermore, two waterway incidents and one maritime accident happened in April.
Overall, a total of 3,808 traffic accidents were reported in the first four months of this year, claiming 2,276 lives and injuring 2,431 others. Compared to the same period in 2021, the number of cases and injuries declined by 694 and 801, respectively, while the number of deaths increased by seven.
