Vietnam to grant amnesty to 4,000 prisoners

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Steering Committee on Special Amnesty of the Ministry of Public Security chaired the conference.
At the event, Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc Bang, General of the Police General Department of Criminal Verdict Execution and Judicial Assistance (General Department 8) briefed on the results of the implementation of the of the President’s Decision on Special Amnesty in 2016.

Accordingly, about 4,000 records are found eligible for this special amnesty drive. As reported by local units, all the proposed inmates have already paid their additional fines for damage compensations, legal costs and other civil obligations.
General Department 8 have also sent a list of those eligible for this special amnesty drive to provincial and municipal police agencies for further review and preparation to help special amnesty grantees to reintegrate into the local communities.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh appreciated the efficiency and responsibility of the Steering Committee on Special Amnesty in implementing the President’s Decision.
He also urgedthe Steering Committee to closely collaborate with the relevant agencies in further reviewing and examining all proposed cases for this special amnesty drive in order to ensure all criteria and conditions to be met by amnesty grantees.
