President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception on December 7 at the Presidential Palace for Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Yemi Osinbajo who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed Nigerian Vice President Y. Osinbajo's first visit to Vietnam, believing that the visit would contribute to consolidating and creating new impetus for the good friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Nigeria.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated Nigeria's achievements in socio-economic development, and its growing regional and international role. He affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Nigeria, considering Nigeria as one of the priority partners in Africa.

Vice President Y. Osinbajo expressed his honor to lead the highest-ranking Nigerian delegation to visit Vietnam since 2005 and congratulated Vietnam on its impressive achievements in economic development.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Vice President Y. Osinbajo welcomed the results of cooperation between the two countries over the past time in the fields of politics-diplomacy, trade, investment and digital economy. They agreed on a score of measures to help boost bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

The two sides agreed to intensify the exchange of delegations, especially high-level delegations, actively coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, creating a solid premise for cooperation in other fields, especially the economy.

The two leaders affirmed that, with a large population and located in dynamic developing regions of Africa and Asia, strengthening the connection between the two economies of Vietnam and Nigeria is of great significance, meeting the great desire and potential of each country, contributing to the prosperous development of the two countries.

The two sides consented to step up trade cooperation through increasing promotion activities, creating favorable conditions for market access for each country's strong commodities, with Vietnam being agricultural products. seafood, consumer goods and, for Nigeria being raw cashew nuts, timber and wood products, and liquefied petroleum gas.

They expressed their desire to strengthen investment cooperation, offer favorable conditions for businesses of both sides to seek opportunities and implement projects in potential fields such as oil and gas exploration, production and service provision, and information technology.

In addition, Vice President Y. Osinbajo emphasized that Nigeria welcomes and wishes Vietnamese businesses to promote investment in the Nigerian market in the fields of agricultural product processing, digital economy, telecommunications, and renewable energy.
Given the important role of agriculture in the two countries' economies, the two leaders agreed to identify this as one of the key areas of cooperation.

The Nigerian side expressed its impression of Vietnam's achievements in the field of agricultural science and aspired to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of plant varieties and cultivation techniques for food crops.

On this occasion, Vice President Y. Osinbajo conveyed President Muhammadu Buhari's invitation to President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to pay an official visit to Nigeria in the time ahead.
