Hue is scheduled to pay an official visit to China from April 7 to 12 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Zhao Leji.

This is the first high-level visit to China by a Vietnamese Party and State leader after the two countries upgraded their ties during the Vietnam visit in December 2023 by Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.

The visit is of great significance as it will provide strategic direction for bilateral relations and concretize high-level common perceptions and results achieved during General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China in October 2022 and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s visit to Vietnam in December 2023 with sĩ major directions of cooperation, said Le Thu Ha, vice chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee.

It will help promote higher political trust and consolidate a stronger social foundation, contributing to elevating and deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China.

Hue’s visit is also to affirm the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam to consider developing relations with China as a strategic choice and top priority in its overall foreign policy, said Ha.

Vietnam-China relations have developed positively and reaped great results in recent times through high-level visit exchanges outlining directions for future cooperation between the two countries.

Notably, during Xi’s visit to Vietnam in December 2023, the two sides issued a joint statement on continuing to deepen and elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to build a Vietnam-China community with a shared future.

The two sides also signed 36 cooperation documents in various fields, laying a firm foundation for developing stable, healthy, sustainable and long-term bilateral relations.

The signing of a new parliamentary cooperation agreement between the two countries during Hue’s visit will create a legal basis to raise the level of cooperation between the two legislative bodies, commensurate with the height of relations between the two countries, said Ha.

The two sides will increase the exchange of parliamentary delegations in order to share experience in operations of the legislative bodies and related agencies, in perfecting the Party’s leadership method, building a law-governed socialist state; building and perfecting institutions and policies for socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security among others.

The two sides will also coordinate and support each other at regional and world inter-parliamentary forums, contributing to continuing to deepen and elevate their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, concluded Ha.
