Deputy Minister Bui Van Thanh asks fire forces to enhance dissemination on fire safety, prevention and fighting

PSNews – Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security had a meeting with the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department as well as other relevant local units on the afternoon of April 3, in Hanoi, on fire safety, prevention and fighting work across the country in the coming time.

At the meeting, Major General Doan Viet Nam, Director of the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department stated that, in the first months of 2018, there were many serious fire and explosion incidents, causing large human and property losses.

Accordingly, the first quarter of 2018 saw 1,040 explosions, killing 31 people, injuring 42 others and causing a total material loss of VND 271 billion, across the country.

Some bad elements made use of those fire explosions to provoke public disturbances and affect badly local security and social order, fire prevention and fighting work as well as people's lives.

Major General Doan Viet Manh also said that, in the time ahead, the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department will carry out a general fire inspection drive in tall buildings, industrial parks, trade centers, entertaining centers and other crowded places. Additionally, local fire prevention and fighting units will ask owners or management boards of all construction projects to hand reports on the designs and plans on fire prevention and fighting.

In particular, the department will cooperate with relevant ministries, agencies and branches to hold specific workshops, and will advise leaders of the Ministry of Public Security on directions regarding fire prevention and fighting and rescue activities, to raise people’s awareness of fire prevention and fighting.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Bui Van Thanh emphasized that the second quarter of 2018 was considered the peak time of fire prevention and fighting. Therefore, the fire fighting forces should promote public dissemination of information and education on fire prevention in various practical and plentiful forms and methods.

The department should also focus on training and enhance professional skills for firefighters, and strive to minimize losses of human and property caused by fire and explosion.
