MPS leader asks to clarify the cause of Carina Plaza fire incident

On March 25, at the scene of the Carina Plaza fire incident making 14 dead and more than 50 injured, Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh had a meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Fire Police and Fire Police of District 8 to clarify the cause of the second fire incident injuring 2 fire fighters.
Colonel Nguyen Thanh Huong, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Fire Police reported to Deputy Minister Bui Van Thanh that the second fire incident caused by the generator in use to activate the water pumps serving ongoing fire-fighting activities.
Due to the excessive operation, the generator became hot then exploded, causing fire and injuring 2 fire fighters standing nearby. Both officers were taken to Cho Ray hospital and one was seriously injured. The fire was quickly extinguished and did not affect the fire-fighting operation against the first fire incident.
Deputy Minister Bui Van Thanh asked the Municipal Fire Police to take care and ensure safety for all on-duty fire-fighters while asking the hospital for intensive treatment of the injured officers so that they could soon recover and return to work.
Deputy Minister also urged the District 8 Fire Police to review the fire fighting and rescue work as well as the capabilities of local fire groups and work with relevant units to inspect the fire safety and dissemination work of fire prevention knowledge and regulations among local residents.
