ASEAN expands cooperation with China, Japan and RoK in fighting trans-national crime
PSNews - Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security (MPS), led a Vietnamese MPS delegation to attend consultation meetings in the framework of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC), namely the 8th AMMTC Plus China, the 6th AMMTC Plus Japan, the 2nd AMMTC Plus Republic of Korea, and AMMTC Plus 3.
* At the AMMTC Plus China Consultation, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that Vietnam highly appreciates the importance of the ASEAN - China strategic partnership for regional peace, stability and prosperity.
Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that China should maintain and promote effective cooperation mechanisms on training and experience sharing in crime control with ASEAN countries while further supporting tools and equipment for ASEAN countries in their fight against transnational crime. China is also expected to provide more vaccines ASEAN countries to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic as well as to cooperate with ASEAN members in research, production and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
* At the AMMTC + 3 Consultation, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that the two sides should give priority to COVID-19 prevention and control cooperation.
On one hand, the two sides continue to effectively implement the ASEAN + 3 Action Program on prevention and combat of terrorism and transnational crime for the period of 2018 - 2022. On the other hand, law enforcement agencies of regional countries need to establish bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms that will efficiently respond to transnational, organized crime.
* Speaking at the AMMTC Plus Japan Consultation, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang stated that, as the coordinator of the ASEAN-Japan dialogue in the 2018-2021 period, Vietnam has proposed various initiatives to expand cooperation between ASEAN and Japan in all fields. In fact, the two sides have achieved encouraging results of security cooperation and cooperation in transnational crime prevention and control.
Vietnam also proposed the two sides to continue implementing the SOMTC - Japan Action Plan on cooperation in the fight against terrorism and transnational crime for the period of 2018 – 2022 while promoting experience sharing, mutual legal assistance and criminal extradition. Additionally, the Vietnamese head delegate suggested they expand cooperation in research, transfer of Covid vaccine production technology and vaccine distribution so as to support ASEAN countries in prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.
* Speaking at the AMMTC Plus the Republic of Korea Consultation, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that, as the coordinator of the ASEAN - Republic of Korea dialogue in the period of 2021-2024, Vietnam is committed to strengthening and deepening the ASEAN-Republic of Korea strategic partnership, on the basis of mutual understanding, respect, shared vision and mutual benefits for the countries and peoples of the two sides.
At the virtual meetings, the parties adopted the Joint Statement of the 11th AMMTC Plus 3 on Transnational Crime Prevention and Control; the Joint Statement of the 6th AMMTC Plus Japan on Transnational Crime Prevention and Control; and the Joint Statement of the 2nd AMMTC Plus the Republic of Korea on Transnational Crime Prevention and Control.
