Vietnam Coast Guard investigates 220 smuggling cases at sea

The Vietnam Coast Guard Command held a conference on March 9 to review results of the campaign to fight crime at sea during the Traditional Lunar New Year.

A fishing boat transporting 60,000 liters petrol illegally was checked by the Coast Guard. 

Speaking at the event, Major General Le Quang Dao applauded the efforts and achievements gained by all units under the Vietnam Coast Guard Command over the past time.

Notably, they discovered and seized over 800,000 liters of smuggled petrol, investigated and handled 227 cases with 300 suspects arrested. Of the figure, 72 drug-related cases were busted, 101 suspects were arrested, 38 bars of heroin, nearly 37,000 pills and 65 kg of synthetic drugs and various exhibits were seized.

In addition, the Coast Guard also detected and handled 228 foreign ships violating the Vietnamese waters.

They also closely coordinated with the Steering Committee of the National Plan on Fight against Drug, Human Trafficking, Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Counterfeit, and on Practice of Thrift and Anti-wastefulness (Steering Committee 389) and functional forces, local authorities of coastal provinces and cities to strengthen prevention and combat of crimes.

In recognition of their efforts and achievements, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the Steering Committee 389 sent a letter to praise the Coast Guard Command, various individuals and teams under the Coast Guard Command were honored.
