Vietnam receives 740,000 Sputnik V vaccine doses
A batch of 740,000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V Covid vaccine was shipped to Noi Bai International Airport, days after Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son visited Russia.
A batch of 740,000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V Covid vaccine was shipped to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi City on September 29. This is the first vaccine batch to be sent to Vietnam after Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son visited Russia and worked with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to discuss the vaccine supply.
The vaccine batch was received by Vietnamese pharmaceutical company VABIOTECH, under the Ministry of Health, which is a Vietnamese partner of RDIF for the vaccine production technology transfer.
A representative of VABIOTECH said the firm had received a large volume of semi-finished products from the Russian side to produce the Sputnik V vaccine. The firm will churn out 40 million doses of the vaccine from now until June 2022 to be given to residents.
On September 26, VABIOTECH announced that it had managed to produce the first batch of the Sputnik V Covid vaccine.
Sputnik V, a two-dose Covid vaccine, has been developed based on a proven and well-studied platform of human adenoviral vectors. The interval between the first and the second shot is three weeks. The Vietnamese Ministry of Health approved Sputnik V for emergency use in Vietnam on March 23.
