At the question-and-answer session of the 15th National Assembly’ (NA) second sitting, Minister of Public Security General To Lam on November 11 answered queries raised by NA deputies about the coordination between the Public Security Forces and the health sector in the fight against COVID-19 and cases of wrongdoings in medical equipment procurement.
According to Minister To Lam, over the past time, the Public Security Forces have detected, investigated and prosecuted a number of complicated cases of wrongdoings in bidding and procurement of medical equipment at major hospitals and health agencies, such as the Hanoi CDC, Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital, Ha Tinh Department of Health, Can Tho Department of Health, Son La Department of Health and so on.
As all prosecuted people have admitted their crimes, the Ministry of Public Security will speed up the investigation of the cases and take action against the accused in accordance with laws.
Regarding the second concern of NA deputies, Minister To Lam explained the smuggling and illegal trading of medical supplies, testing kits, and COVID-19 treatment medicines had become complicated in the time of COVID-19.
In this situation, the Ministry of Public Security directed the local police forces to deploy drastic measures to prevent and handle violations in illegally trading medicines and medical supplies, as well as vaccines.
Minister Lam also affirmed that, in the coming time, the Ministry of Public Security will continue applying scientific and technological advances, especially applications based on the National Database on Population, to effectively control the pandemic, thus contributing to creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development, facilitating lives and work of people and ensuring social security.
