Ministry of Public Security reviews implementation of amnesty
PSNews - The Steering Committee for Amnesty of the Ministry of Public Security held a meeting, on the morning of August 20 in Hanoi, to evaluate the initial results of implementing the President's Decision on Amnesty in 2022.
Deputy Minister of Public Security, Standing Member of the Advisory Council on Amnesty in 2022 and Head of the 2022 Amnesty Steering Committee of the Ministry of Public Security Major General Nguyen Van Long chaired the meeting, which was attended representatives from relevant agencies and units.
Reporting the results of the amnesty work, Major General Hoang Xuan Du, Deputy Director of the Police Department for Management of Prisons, Compulsory Educational Centers and Reformatories said, after the decision on amnesty in 2022 by the President and the Special Amnesty Advisory Council, the Ministry of Public Security established the Special Amnesty Steering Committee.
The Department has advised the Ministry of Public Security and the Special Amnesty Steering Committee of the Ministry of Public Security to issue regulations, documents, and developed software guiding detention facilities to select inmates eligible for amnesty.
The Ministry of Public Security also organized training courses for staff working on amnesty while the provincial-level police departments developed plans based on the instructions and actively advised the Provincial People's Committees on the amnesty work in their localities.
Judgment execution agencies of district-level police offices and detention centers seriously complied with the regulations and instructions in examining dossiers of candidates for amnesty.
In order to ensure the objectiveness, lawfulness and fairness in the selection of amnesty beneficiaries, the Department directed provincial-level judgment execution agencies, prisons and detention camps to carefully review eligible inmates on the short list that had been involved in cases under the supervision of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption, and cases of special public concern.
In addition, following the directions of Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long, the Department directly worked with the Police Department for Administrative Management on Social Order on the issuance of e-IDs to to-be-early-released, helping them reintegrate into the community.
